Former NFL player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to confront an attempted murder accusation related to a incident that took place in May, as his lawyer submitting a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Jail logs in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular figures in the NFL, had forgone transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being arrested in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an communication that he has previously submitted a formal not guilty plea to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday early for a bail hearing, Eiglarsh added.

Based on his arrest order, Brown is accused of seizing a firearm from a safety guard after a star match contest in May and shooting two bullets at a person he had confronted with before. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one of the bullets touched his neck.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was forced to take were purely in self-defense against the claimed person’s hostile actions. Brown was assaulted that night and behaved within his rightful right to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not right away detained because at first officers did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It only afterward in May that Nantambu provided a detailed statement about the event to authorities and named Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit indicates.

Based on his online content, Brown had been staying in Dubai for a number of period. In a message after the altercation, Brown stated he was safeguarding himself because he was “assaulted by numerous individuals who sought to rob my valuables and inflict personal harm to me.”

A level two attempted murder accusation in the state of Florida bears a maximum 15-year incarceration sentence and up to a $10,000 fee in the instance of a guilty verdict.
