Doris Secures Spot in Irish Selection While Joe McCarthy Omitted

Newly reappointed head coach the Ireland coach has selected skipper Caelan Doris in his Irish roster for the fall Tests, however Joe McCarthy is absent.

The captain, absent from play since having shoulder surgery in early May, has come back to provincial training, with doubts lingering whether he will be ready to play against the All Blacks in Chicago on 1 November.

Second row Joe McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot injury he sustained during the opening Lions Test against the Wallabies in the summer.

Northern province forward Izuchukwu and southern province winger Nash are also absent due to injury, and number 15 Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation after the summer tour.

Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only new player in the 34-player group, but Irish rugby authorities states new Munster pair Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped western province wing Bolton will head to the US as "backup".

After playing the All Blacks at Soldier Field in a rematch of their previous meeting, the team host the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world champions South Africa in Dublin.

"It's an exciting group to the panel and it's a chance for the veteran players and for the newcomers on the summer tour to Georgia and the Lobos," commented Farrell, who returns to Ireland duty after a break to coach the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.

In a mostly experienced selection, the Dublin club's Prendergast and the southern club's Jack Crowley will once again vie for the starting number 10 position. The fly-half role is remains up for grabs, as the two players poised to face off for the first time in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at the Dublin venue.

Ciaran Frawley is the third number 10 selected as Farrell deciding not to selecting the province's Byrne.

At scrum-half, Farrell has picked Lions tourist Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who led Ireland to the summer international wins over the Lelos and the Lobos. There is also a recall for Connacht's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to teammate Murphy.

Robbie Henshaw, Aki, Garry Ringrose and McCloskey form an experienced group of midfield choices. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, but the 23-year-old is additionally a frontrunner to deputise for the full-back at full-back.

Wingers James Lowe, Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are included. O'Brien impressed on his national team debut over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and Portugal.

Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Ireland pack. The front rower has started a couple of Leinster's URC league games so far and played in the second string's loss by England in Bristol previously.

The 22-year-old was selected in caretaker coach O'Connell's summer squad, but did not receive a cap.

Southern province second row Ahern, who received his first two caps in those matches, is retained, while experienced Ulster lock Henderson is back after missing the summer matches.

Conan, who started each of the Lions matches over the summer, is poised to cover for the captain if the skipper fails to recover full fitness soon enough to face New Zealand.

The Ireland squad will assemble in Dublin on Monday before flying to the US on the following day.
